About Our Bodies

Knowing how and why our bodies operate the way that they do can make a huge difference to our sex lives. Hopefully you can find some information below that can help you and if not, some excellent links to resources. Knowledge is power.
The vulva is the name given to the outside parts of the vagina. These include the clitoris, labia, urethra and then the vagina which is the part that connects the outside to the inside cervix. All parts of the vulva are crucial to sexual function.

CLITORIS

The clitoris is the only organ in the human body designed entirely for pleasure. It is a complex and often misunderstood part of anatomy and there are still many studies and research going in to discovering more. The clitoris is shaped like a wish bone, and has parts that extend inside and outside the body. The most talked about part is the one that is visual and often referred to as a “pea” or the clitoral hood or glans clitoris.

This part is the most obvious and visual and therefore often what people are referring to when they talk about the clitoris. The glans clitoris is full of nerve endings and when stimulated, is what most commonly allows us to orgasm. However, the clitoris is made up of a number of different areas that can all be stimulated. The clitoris will be unique to each person and what makes you feel good may change from person to person so getting to know your own clitoris is really important.

G-Spot

Science now understands that the clitoris extends significantly further and into the body. One theory that currently exists is that the “g spot” is actually the extension of the clitoris internally. Its location is basically the back of the clitoris. So once inside the vagina, it is on the anterior wall (facing back out towards your front of your body – belly button, seepic opposite.
Many products are designed to try and stimulate this area and a g spot vibrator will often have a slanted but flat area that is designed to be held inside the vagina and massage this wall. However, you can likely achieve this with any internal designed vibrator if you manoeuvre the pressure to this wall. G spot vibes just make this a little easier and nicer on the clitoris too.

Labia

The labia are the ‘lips’ of the vulva. They take on a huge amount of responsibility and are the support person and protection for our vagina, urethra and clitoris. It is also the most visible part of the vagina. The labia are also full of nerve endings and provide lubrication.  Once stimulated, the labia swell with blood and become engorged. This happens even more quickly after having children as blood flow is already increased. After orgasm, the labia will slowly reduce back to size and continue to do its magical role of protecting our sacred parts.

Appearance:

There is a lot of discussion around the appearance of the labia. Unfortunately, pornography has not helped in this area, often neglecting to show the vast majority of women with normal looking vaginas. In fact, the number of labiaplasty surgeries (a procedure to alter the appearance of the labia) has significantly increased. Labia’s come in all shapes and sizes and will change over time. We have included some resources in our resource page that can show you just how normal your own labia is.

Erogenous Zones

While the clitoris most certainly is the ‘grand central station’ of our ability to orgasm, there are many areas in our bodies that can stimulate pleasure. Erogenous zones refer to areas of our body that stimulate a sexual response.
We know how important foreplay is. Without it, most women simply will not orgasm. Our emotional and physical beings are intrinsically connected and ‘getting in the mood’ is a vital part of fulfilling our sexual desires. In order to do this, we need to understand what makes us feel good.
There are many different erogenous zones and like everything, each person is unique. A few more common stops are:
  • Ears
  • Lips
  • Nape of the neck
  • Belly button
  • Breast and nipples
  • Butt
  • Lower back

Uniquely You

It is always worth getting to know your own body and what works for you. Feeling comfortable and confident naked will have a huge impact on your sex life. It’s a bit of ‘chicken and the egg’ with this. Sometimes getting to know your body and making yourself feel good can make you feel sexy. Sometimes we don’t even want to because we don’t feel confident. Knowing that all bodies are beautiful and finding sexiness in the way in which your body responds to touch and feel can be extremely erotic and make you feel sexy in itself. Using a light feather tickler or the tips of your fingers is a sensual way to get to know yourself.

Find something that works for you and have fun with it. Take the time to relax and explore your own body first and then you can communicate this with your partner.

Ultimately we would love for more women to talk freely about sex and their bodies and pleasure. We also know that what works for someone else may not be what works for you.

So now that you know so much about your body and are ready to feel absolutely orgasmic, why not try a beautiful pleasure product to help REALLY stimulate your body.

The best way to find out is to play with yourself and hopefully you can use on of our products to have #elixirplaytime.
